Wearable devices to enable vehicle interaction
Once reserved for only superheroes and special agents, the ability to control and interact with a vehicle via wearable electronics is now a reality with Hyundai’s cloud-based Blue Link platform. The platform allows owners to connect with their vehicle via wearable electronics, with features like remote start and service information quickly accessible through new devices like Google Glass and others.
Saving time and adding a new level of convenience, wearable devices will allow remote interaction with the vehicle without the need to pull out their smartphone. Hyundai plans to launch a Blue Link Glassware application this year with the all-new 2015 Genesis sedan.
Joining Hyundai’s existing mobile app offerings, there will be Wearable device apps designed to give Hyundai owners convenient access to Blue Link features and Car Care services. Hyundai plans to launch the 2015 Genesis vehicle with new infotainment and connectivity features powered by Blue Link.
It is important to present useful and relevant information, due to small screens of wearable devices only allowing a limited amount of information to be shown. On Google Glass, vehicle information will be presented as cards optimized for the Glass user interface. Push notifications will alert the owner when maintenance is due and allow quick service scheduling by enabling the wearer to initiate a call using the device’s built-in functionality. The application will also allow owners to access popular Blue Link features like remote start, remote door lock/unlock, vehicle finder, POI send-to-car powered by Google quickly using the device’s compact interface.
“Genesis is a unique take on luxury where the owner experience is enabled through the intelligent application of technology, features and services that empower the owner,” said Mark Dipko, director of Corporate Planning and Strategy at Hyundai Motor America. “We feel this vehicle is a great product to showcase how the latest technology can enhance the ownership experience and give owners more time and convenience.”
